Half-Term Homework (Desperate Housewives)

1. Who made the show?
Marc Cherry made the show 'Desperate Housewives'.

2. What channel is it on?
Desperate Housewives is on channel 4 & e4.

3. What time is it on?
It is on at 10pm on a Sunday and Wedensday night.

4. What is the sub genre?
The sub-genre of Desperate Housewives is romantic comedy.

5. Who is the target audience?
Their target audience is females aged from teenagers to 40 year olds.

6. What was the narrative?
The narrative of Desperate Housewives is clearly structured. It fits n with Gustav Freytag's theory, which suggests that narratives work in a triangle; they start with the exposition, then rise to a climax, before dropping again to the denouement. This is similiar to how Desperate Housewive's narrative. Each episode tells a different story and there is always a lesson to be learnt at the end of it. There is a voice over, as if telling part of the story, at the begining and at the end of the episode. Each character has thier own story, but they all come together at different parts of the episode.

7. What/Who was being represented?
Different housewives are represented in different ways. There are 4 main 'despeate housewives'/characters and they all have different personalities, but are al similar in one way; they all love gossip.

Analysing the DVD cover of 'The Faculty'

1. What is the genre/sub-genre of the film?
The review by Deroit News denotes 'A scary sci-fi flick with wit, energy and attitude!'. This connotes that the genre of this film is a scifi.

2. How are people/places/events represented on the cover?
The front cover denotes an image of teenagers which represents what teh characters are in the film.
A dark night background is denoted and this connotes that they are in a dark place and that something bad will happen in teh film.

3. What institutions are involved in the production, distribution and exhibition of the film?
The cover denotes 'Widescreen' which connotes that this company had an involvment in the production of this film.

4. Who is the target audience? How are they targeted?
The target audience for this film is teenagers+. This is because it is denoted that the screenplay is by the writers of scream and scream 2, so they would have an influence on this film too.
